Printer doing nothing: 16 MB fails, but 16 GB works
Quick note for anyone else who might be having the same problem.  My printer wasn't doing anything but running the cooling fan.  After chasing down several other possibilities related to wiring, I finally found the answer.

I was using an old Sandisk 16 MB (that's right, 16 megabytes) MultiMediaCard card from way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth.  It has no problems with my Mac, Disk Utility reports msdos format, and every other SD-using gadget in the house likes it, so hey.  I figured it must be good.  I didn't even realize it was MMC until I looked closely at the label a few minutes ago.

Nope.  Swapped out for a brand new G.Skill 16 GB micro SDHC card in an adapter.  Works fine.  Lesson: SD good, MMC bad.

It ripped up the tape though.  Calibration might be my next step.

First, it also didn't work on my printer, but when I formatted the SD card in FAT32 it worked just fine. This may also help somebody. My SD card was an old 2 GB from Toshiba.
